6°WEST on INCH KENNETH
6°WEST has formed to create a distinctive cultural voice for contemporary art practice on Mull and Iona, the Highlands and Islands, the UK and internationally. The uniqueness of the collective comes from the diversity of practice that it embodies, brought together by curator Alicia Hendrick and exemplified in the work of artists Anne Devine, David Faithfull, Mhairi Killin, and Veronica Slater.
The name 6°WEST is at the core of the group’s collective positioning in place and purpose. It indicates the geographical co-ordinates of where the five members meet and their aim of creating a sixth space for collaboration to transform and generate new ideas. This sixth space could be a person, process, place, object or organisation. Fundamental to the group’s identity is a convergence to make art in response to this distinctive landscape and culture.
6°WEST represents the beginning of a creative trajectory, remapping artistic practice in contemporary visual art both in the islands of Mull and Iona and in a global cultural context.
